Why a consultation

For most diagnoses there is more than one right path

A doctor should know them all and always set out every option — and explain the benefits and risks of each. That does not always happen.

On the strength of their own experience a specialist prefers a single method of treatment and has no experience of the others.

Other treatment options are not available at their department, so the patient is never told about them.

The patient never learns of an approach that might have suited them better.
